IVF science • careful stewardship

Embryology with clarity at every stage.

The embryology laboratory supports fertilization, embryo culture, cryopreservation and the careful handling of eggs, sperm and embryos throughout IVF treatment.

Core laboratory work

Precision, observation and continuity.

Embryology is a sequence of tightly coordinated steps rather than a single procedure.

01

Fertilization

Conventional insemination or ICSI may be used according to clinical and laboratory indications.

02

Embryo culture

Embryos are observed over time while the team documents development and prepares clinically appropriate updates.

03

Cryopreservation

Vitrification and monitored storage support preservation of eggs and embryos for planned future use.

Laboratory journey

How IVF moves through the lab.

Not every cycle follows the same timeline, and laboratory observations do not guarantee implantation or live birth.

01

Retrieval day

The laboratory receives and identifies the retrieved oocytes and coordinates with the clinical team.

02

Fertilization approach

The chosen method reflects semen findings, egg number and maturity, prior history and the physician–embryology plan.

03

Development and assessment

Embryo development is documented at appropriate intervals while exposure outside controlled culture conditions is minimized.

04

Transfer, biopsy or freezing

The next step may include fresh transfer, biopsy for indicated genetic testing, cryopreservation or individualized counseling.

Embryo appearance and laboratory milestones provide useful information but cannot predict every outcome. Genetic testing also has limitations that should be reviewed before consent.

A coordinated next step

Understand the laboratory plan behind your IVF cycle.

Your care team can explain which laboratory steps are relevant and what information each step can provide.
