You may be interested in acupuncture during fertility care because it fits your preferences or because someone recommended it. The decision is easier when comfort and treatment outcomes are discussed separately. Feeling supported is valuable, but it should not be translated into a promise of implantation or pregnancy.
NCCIH reports that a review comparing acupuncture with sham acupuncture did not find a difference in IVF pregnancy or live-birth rates. The evidence does not justify presenting acupuncture as a proven way to improve IVF success. Ask what outcome a proposed service is meant to address and what evidence supports that particular claim.
Ask about practitioner credentials, infection-prevention practices, and how the service would fit around planned procedures. Tell your treatment team about complementary services you are considering. Herbal products offered alongside acupuncture need a separate review; agreeing to one service does not establish the safety of every product sold with it.
Ask for the expected number of visits and the full cost before committing. Decide whether the time and expense are worthwhile to you without an outcome guarantee. You may choose acupuncture for personal reasons, choose another supportive activity, or decline it. None of those choices should be presented as a failure to do enough.
